Ladies and Gentlemen, the Lonely Mountain Band kinship on Landroval proudly presents:
Now you may ask: What *is* Weatherstock?
Well, I am glad you asked! And the answer is quite easy:
Weatherstock is simply the most famous concert event in Lord of the Rings Online!
And boy you don’t want to miss this one! — Ok, you probably want a little more information before you believe that, eh? Allright, here are the facts:
Fact 1: Weatherstock actually consists of two events which belong together
The Weatherstock Concert Series
The WCS is a series of concerts leading up to the main event. With these concerts the Lonely Mountain Band wants to give all competing bands the opportunity to present themselves to the Landroval audience and all the wayfairers and fans who come from other servers to see their favourite bands. These concerts go for a full hour and not just 15 minutes. In previous years only the ten attending bands got a slot in the WCS making the series a quite big and very fun of it’s own. This year however it will be even bigger! This year the LMB got 15 bands who registered and all of them get a WCS slot even if five of them can’t play at the big event itself. Now add five more bands to that who want to play the WCS actually grew to it’s double size! So you can expect a really great time leading to the main event in the next few weeks full of music with no less than 20 bands playing your favourite songs! Make sure you keep an eye on the Lotro Artists Calendar to see all the dates of the WCS concerts.
The Weatherstock Main Event is a music competition in which 10 bands compete against each other to win one of two prizes:
FREE PEOPLE’s CHOICE AWARD
This prize is awared by the audience via internet voting. Each band has a slot of 15 minutes to play their songs and get you all excited about them so you give them their vote. The band with the most votes wins.
Note: If you visited a Weatherstock event in the previous years you may notice that this is a change from previous years where voting was done ingame by the audience with hope tokens (you can do that still of course!). The Lonely Mountain Band decided to change this to make the voting more transparent and fun to the audience. You’ll see, it’s a lot of fun and exciting to watch the votes come in during the event!
THE LONELY MOUNTAIN BAND CUP
This prize is awared by the members of the Lonely Mountain Band via internal kinship voting.
Fact 2: Weatherstock has the biggest audience in all Middle-Earth.
Last year the Lonely Mountain Band counted 700 people attending! That means: Lag will be…. er… epic too. At least for the first 20 minutes of the event until everyone found their place to attend the event. The LMB will have a “Megaband” playing during that time to “eat the lag up” for the following contending bands.
Here is a fun video the BBB made two years ago. Be warned – it has an earwig in it that was composed by the awesome Aegthil.
And while we’re at it: You can listen to both Weatherstock songs the LMB has produced in the past right here in full length:
Fact 3: Weatherstock will run for at least six hours.
And all experience tells us… it’s actually even longer. Last year the event ran for an epic full seven hours! Have beverage and food ready in front of your computer!
Fact 4: You don’t need a high level toon if you want to attend!
A level 6-7 toon on Landroval is all you need! You can create your favourite char, play them through the intro and the and travel to Bree right away. In Bree go to the South Gate and then watch out for an escort who will bring you to the Forsaken Inn. We will gather there about 1 hour before the actual event starts. In time we will have a nice procession to the summit of Weathertop. The LMB has got you covered and will protect you from dangerous beasts with their escorts as good as they can. It may happen that lag causes problems. If that happens contact a member of the LMB security team to get you up into the mountain.
Oh, and since you now have a toon on Landroval you may want to check out our event calendar to see what other great events are happening on Landroval!
Fact 5: Many visitors mean there will be lag and other issues.
You computer may not be able to render the event with your usual graphic settings. So turn down all your graphics to a fairly poor look, especially of you have an older computer. When you reached the summit and lag settles you can turn up the graphics settings if you like for a better experience. The advice is: Start low, go higher slowly. Just take into account that your computer may crash and you may run into problems logging back in because it may not be able to cope with the event. If that happens the Lonely Mountain Band staff will try to help you as good as they can. Remember that you can change graphics settings from within the character selection screen right before you enter the game world. It helps when you don’t wear cloaks, hats and shoulder pieces and please refrain from getting your pets out.
